Episode 29 (s2 ep4) - Reason to fight

Review by Nimrod

We start off quick this week with a flashback to the past after Allelujah had his operation done as part of the HRL’s super soldier program when he was very young. He hears a voice in his head so he follows it to a room where he sees a young girl named Marie in a box. He doesn’t recall his name so she gives him the name of Allelujah. While this is taking place the pair is being observed by doctors/scientists as we go back to Allelujah now in his quarters commenting about how that was his baptism and then we hit the opening credits.

We’re back and it’s under the sea aboard the Ptlomios as Marina is in a conference room with Setsuna, Tieria, Ian and Lasse and thanks them for not only saving her from the prison but as well for their actions in her country years ago. Setsuna asks what she plans on doing now and she replies that she wants to return to her home country of Azadistan much to their surprise. She goes onto her reason why she must return to it as we learn that Azadistan has basically fallen apart during the time skip since it is not a part of the federation. Setsuna agrees and so they decide to take her back to her homeland. Before this is done Melina pokes her head into the room and asks if Setsuna and Marina are lovers to which both answer at the same time “No”.  On their way to the bridge Lasse asks where Sumeragi is and Ian replies that she’s back in her room and not ready for the uniform yet.

Over to Lockon as he’s in a simulator practicing his skills and trying to get up to the point of his brother which is off since he’s just at 78% accuracy. As he leaves he notices Feldt watching but she turns away quickly. He asks her why she was watching him and Haro says it’s because she liked Lockon. He notes that he isn’t his brother but says they can go out and kisses her. She then slaps him and runs off as he notes once more how he hates people comparing him to his brother. When then go back to Sumeragi as Allelujah arrives and asks if she wants to share a drink with him.

On the surface as we see a giant carrier travelling across the sea as the A-Laws commander is giving Kati a hard time over the previous episodes battle. We then get introduced to Major Aber Lynt as he is given command over the next operation to deal with the Gundams. We learn that he specializes in clean up operations to which Kati is surprised that he has been brought in. We go back to the commander and Lynt as we learn of his plan to deal with the Gundams as well as the fact that he’s request the addition of Mr. Bushido (the masked man) to the operation as well as the Mobile Armor Trilobite. We then head over to Kati in her quarters as she goes over the previous mission as they launch the Trilobite that Soma on the carrier’s deck notes has a GN drive. We dissolve to Louise as her platoon has been ordered to be dispatched to the surface from their post in space.

Over to the Catalan base, as we see they have a few FMS flags, as the leaders go over the fact that Jean-1 (aka Lyle) has told them that Celestial Being is headed to Azadistan to return Marina there. It seems the plan is to help Celestial Being and at that point hope they can take Marina into their custody. Shirin makes a request that she can join in the operation to meet with and get her friend. Back aboard the Ptlomios as Setsuna and finds Marina to which she asks him to join her when she gets back to her home to help her rebuild her country. He says he can’t because he needs to fight and once more they debate their point of views with Setsuna saying that with the Gundam his fighting can help things for the future. You know, for a pair who says they’re not lovers or a couple they certainly act like it at times.

We then head to the Engineering room where Saji has been put to work with the maintenance of the ship. He asks Ian why he’s being allowed to do this and see all the classified equipment and Ian says that he’s a) has a class 2 engineer license and they’re short handed and b) he’s gotta earn his keep if he wants to eat. Saji then asks why Ian and the rest are on the ship and Ian goes on to say that everyone has their specific reasons but they share the same goal. Over to Allelujah and Sumeragi as it seems that Allelujah has told her about Soma/Marie and they discuss the situation. Looks like Sumeragi is back in the mother/older sister role on the ship even though she’s still not “officially” a part of the crew. During this we learn that he wants to get Marie back even though she may hate him for what he did to the Super Soldier Facility. We also learn that Sumeragi originally joined Celestial Being to help make up for her past mistakes. We then learn that this is a flashback as she’s trying to find a reason to stay aboard the ship. As she looks at a picture from 4 years she notices that outside in the water that something is off as the ship comes under attack.

As the attack goes on it seems that the A-Laws are using torpedoes that can pass through the ships GN field and hit it. The damage in the lower bay causes the room in which the Gundam are held to flood. As they try to raise the ship they come under attack from (what Sumeragi guesses as chemical bombs) as Lynt is sure this will cause the Ptlomios to ship and be crushed by the pressure while Kati wonders to herself on the bridge what the enemy commander will do to counter this plan. Things don’t look good as the Ptlomios can’t use its cannons or steer but Sumeragi arrives on the bridge and takes command and calms them all down.  Sumeragi then notes how they’re lucky because the enemy underwater ship is so close and that they can easily launch the Gundams because the launch bay is already flooded.

The Gundams then launch and team up (with Tieria and Allelujah using Trans-am) to not only beat back the Trilobite but to destroy it as well although just before he destroys it, Setsuna has a quick flash to when Marina asked him to join her. The Arios then helps the Double 0 reach the surface to attack the carrier much to the surprise of Major Lynt. Just as he’s about to take out the carrier, Mr. Bushido flies in and diverts the Double 0 with his custom (has what looks like a Samurai helmet) Ahead. As they begin to fight Mr. Bushido notes that this is the same kid from years ago and basically gives away that he’s Graham Acre. At this point Soma launches in her own Custom (has some different colored armor) Ahead to combat the Arios. Just as the fight was getting interesting Catalan Flags show up and the A-laws retreat much to Lynt’s surprise again.
When then go to a meeting on an island with Catalan and Setsuna and Marina when Klaus and Shirin show up and Shirin tells Marina that she is a part of Catalan as we hit the end credits.

But that’s not all as after the credits end we go back to the A-Laws HQ as we see that Billy has now taken a position within the organization and that the commander is his uncle. Billy has also been placed in the development of new Mobile Suits. We then head back to the Ptlomios as Sumeragi is finally back with the ship as she’s in her new uniform although it’s a tad too tight and shows off her assets. We then quickly go back to Billy as we see that it’s his anger and hatred at Sumeragi’s “betrayal” of him as he thinks she’s probably been using him for a very long time as the episode ends.

Nimrod’s Thoughts: Good episode this week. Started out slow and then really picked up. At last we meet the “Masked Man” and learn that he goes by “Mr. Bushido” but it’s really our old friend Graham Acre. Also, it seems that even if they deny it that there’s probably more going on with Setsuna and Marina especially since she basically asked him to go with her and he’s having flashbacks of her. Finally, Sumeragi is back and Billy is out of blood. Things should get interesting especially once he and Bushido hook up and start cooking up new mobile suits again. Remember the GN Flag people?
