Welcome to Gundam Plus II, the successor to the original Gundam Plus site.
Episode 13 - Space Fortress Ambat
The episode starts off with a quick summary of the past few episodes leading up to what is happening to this week as we hit the opening credits. We’re back as we see the assembled fleet as they make the final push towards the UE base. On board the Diva, we see the various crew members prepare themselves for the battle, making it seem by anime laws that their time is coming to an end. Of course during this when we learn of the mega cannon added to the Diva and Flit shock that the AGE Builder came up with it, Dique gets the line of the series in.
“But you designed it; shouldn’t you know how it works?”
Yes my friends that line shows how out of whack the writing and logic is at times.
Anyway, back to the show as we see Emily and Millias have a chat, a chat which has been pointed out to be nearly word for word the one that took place in Gundam 0080, and during which Millias encourages Emily to tell Flit how she feels. In the hanger bay Largann and Woolf have a talk and we get that Largann is implying that Woolf should take care of Millias even though it probably goes over the ace pilots head. Up on the bridge, the final preparations are made as the fleet approaches the UE base and the mobile suits launch.
The initial volley of fire from the fleet appears to leave no damage as there seem to be a shield protecting the base. That’s when the Ue battleship we saw a while back appears and Grodek orders the Diva to “transform”. The transformation of the Diva results in it looking like the White Base with Yark inside the UE base, with some new kid, commenting how it is truly a “Trojan horse” while also noting there are not enough to fight them as he refers to them as “earthers”.
The battle isn’t going well as the Diva can’t get close enough to fire its main cannon. Flit then decides to charge and try to lead away the UE mobile suits to give the Diva an opening. He also feels it’s time to use his “x-rounder” power as he takes out a large number of UE units on his own. Doing so opens up the path for the Diva as it moves closer and fires it’s macross can…er…mega cannon at the UE battleship; destroying it and the base behind it. However, a part of the battleship detached just as the beam hits and runs on a collision course with the Diva. Ract decides to sacrifice himself by colliding with the engine of the part to save the Diva but before he can Mardonna and a bunch of his mobile suits appear, just in time, to stop the part and join in on the battle.
The episode ends as the main assault on the base begins we see inside Desil looking at his mobile suit ready and willing to face Flit along with a bunch of UE men holding what appears to be Yurin captive behind him.
Nimrod’s Thoughts – A quick recap but that’s mostly because not a whole lot happened till near the end. I left out the bit of a “blushing” haro because it was really dumb and I probably shouldn’t have bothered bringing it up. The battle wasn’t really much as it was mainly just a buildup for the Diva to use its mega cannon. On that front I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the Diva’s transformation but I was. I guess I wasn’t expecting another white base look alike. Oh well, we’re coming close to the end of this Generation so let’s see if they go with a bang or a whimper.
