Episode 15 - Those Tears Fall in Space

Review by Nimrod

Here we are the end of Generation 1 of GundamAGE. Does it go out with a bang or a whimper? Let’s find out.

The episode starts out with Flit and the Gundam moving through the base, Flit filled with Kamille level rage, while the battle goes on outside with Woolf and Largann leading the forces to hold the line. As the bridge crew moves through the base we learn their plan: The crew will take over the command center and open the reactor shields so the Gundam could them attack and cause a reaction to blow up the base. As Flit continues to move through the base he narrowly misses running into Yark and his leg like Mobile suit as he hit the opening credits.

We’re back as we see Flit encounter Yark Dole for the first time and they begin fighting. Flit begins to gain the upper hand as he’s an “x-rounder” while Yark seems to be using a system that’s supposed to keep up with them. Yark turns and runs with Flit in pursuit through the UE base.

Back outside we see Largann and his Genoace get shot up but just as he thinks, as do we, that he’s done he gets saved by the Euba leader. Meanwhile, Woolf leaves the battle as he heads inside the base to in hopes of backing up Flit.

Back to Flit as Yark leads him into a chamber that’s actually a trap as there are quite a few UE suits waiting but much to Yark’s surprise Flit makes short work on them and keeps fighting despite the damage to the Gundam. During this, Flit has another newtype like moment with Yurin vanishing in front of him and in the end flies into a greater rage, on that seemingly Emily picks up on all the way back on the Diva. The fight goes on and just as it seems as though Yark has the lucky shot to finish off Flit, Woolf shows up and saves Flit while the Gundam takes out Yark’s mobile suit. Yark of course escapes before it explodes but Flit leaves the Gundam and chases him, pistol in hand.

Back with Grodek and his group as they make their way to the command center, with Millias showing off her hacking skills to get past security, and they entered the command center to find the people manning it completely oblivious to them and their threats. Yark then enters and begins to talk about how they’re all focused on their tasks. Flit then shows up too and begins to threaten to shoot Yark for all the things that the UE has done. They discuss how different Yark’s people are compared to what he calls “Earthers” and we also learn that Yark helped the Ue enter the colony where the UE killed Grodek’s family. It’s at this point we learn that the Ue are actually survivors of a failed colony on Mars that was covered up by the Federation Government and now they call themselves “Veigans”.  We also learn that Yark is not the leader but one that is taking order from a “Sir Ezelcant”.  Flit doesn’t care and threatens to shoot Yark and Yark dares him to do it but Grodek does the job and shoot him. Yark doesn’t die right away and gets to a control panel and begins the self-destruct systems to the base before Grodek shoots him again killing him. We also learn that little kid we saw last week is Yark’s son and thus will probably be our enemy ace pilot for Generation 2.

Basically, everyone escapes, and celebrates the victory. Grodek enters the bridge and bows to the crew and thanks them for helping him and leaves. In his cabin he is happy he avenged his family.  Down in the hanger Emily is searching for Flit and sees he’s upset. Listening in, she hears him still upset over not being able to save Yurin and vowing to the Gundam that he will become the savior to save them all.

We then hear via a voice over form Millias that the federation arrived and arrested Grodek and then declared that the attack on the Ue was a sanction operation all along. Meanwhile, Grodek was tried for treason and took all the blame for his crew’s actions and thus being locked in prison for his crimes. The episode ends with Millias noting how the cover up is the same as it was for the Mars colony all those years ago.

Nimrod’s Thoughts – Kinda a letdown for the end of a “generation”. The big “fight” between Flit and Yark was quite quick and at no time did we fear for Flit. At least we know how the Ue really are but it does make one wonder: how could the federation not know and not do anything about them if they’re only at Mars? Again, a plot hole that really drags the series down and that’s the problem with the whole series. Hopefully when Gen2 starts next week we’ll get some improvement.
