Welcome to Gundam Plus II, the successor to the original Gundam Plus site.
Episode 19 - Asemu’s departure
We start off with a commencement speech followed by Flit welcoming the new recruits into the military. Did I miss something or did we just skip over Asemu’s basic training as well? Anyway, we head over to the Vagan battleship and see that Zeheart is getting rewarded for his actions on the colony: he’s being given command of the Earth assault force as we hit the opening credits.
Back and it’s after the ceremony and we learn that Asemu has worries about getting special treatment and what not. His sister assures him not as he heads off to his assignment, which turns out to be the Diva. We’ve also learned during this that Romary has opted to join the military as well. On his way to the ship Asemu meets another new recruit – Arisa who says that her father is friends with Asemu’s father. Turns out this is Dique’s daughter but I’m getting ahead of myself as we also spot someone looking like Woolf noting he’s back on the ship as we go to bridge and see that the Captain of the Diva is none other than Millias. Down in the hanger back, Asemu gets a look at the new Gundam (called the AGE-2) and meets the chief mechanic for it: Dique as he also meets his squad leader: Woolf. After the usual briefing the Diva is assigned with transports supplies to Earth. Meanwhile, Zeheart’s battleship spots the Diva’s departure, how they can see that without being detected is beyond me, and sends a squad to discover if the Gundam is on board or not.
On the Diva they detect the incoming mobile suits and deploy Woolf’s squad minus Asemu. The reason is the Gundam is still being prepared with the data from the AGE system. Anyway, it’s pretty much what you should expect of this sort of battle as the team holds out as much as they can with Woolf doing most of the work will Asemu and the Gundam arrives and pretty much cleans house. It should be noted the AGE-2 has a flight mode that’s kinda like the Zeta Gundam (they call its flight mode”G-Strider”). Anyway, Asemu gets well into battle but makes some mistakes and even risks the Diva by his actions, despite being ordered to clear the area by Millias. The battle ends with the Gundam taking out the remaining pair of Vagan units with one shot.
Zeheart, observing the battle, is surprised by the “new” Gundam and wonders if Asemu is the pilot. Back on the Diva as Millias chews Asemu out for disobeying orders despite Woolf trying to get her to go easy on him. The episode ends with Asemu and Arisa standing by the Gundam with Arisa joking with him about getting yelled at.
Nimrod’s Thoughts – Despite the quick recap this episode was a vast improvement over the last few weeks. No more high school nonsense means the series can get back to what it’s about: Gundams. The new Gundam makes it first appearance as we also get introduced to new and old characters. Over/under on how long Asemu’s squad mates last?
