Episode 4 - The White Wolf

Review by Nimrod

We start off on the Diva with the dude (we’ll later learn its Woolf Enneacle) having a shower and saying how he’s the best. Yup, that’s all that happened before the opening credits. Talk about time wasters.

We’re back and we see the Gundam in the hanger bay hooked up to the AGE builder as we see how the data download for the unit works. This is also the first time we see haro transform into a computer terminal to facilitate the transfer. Now that’s something new. Dique and Flit are quite interested in it though Emily notices, and frets, that Flit is “talking like a soldier”. During this Dique also worries about what happened to the people of the colony so Flit suggests they go see the captain and off they go.

Speaking of which we see Grodek in his cabin looking at a picture on his desk before leaving and bumping into the kids outside his door. They of course try to ask him but he tells them to ask someone else and walks off with Emily calling him “creepy”.

In the mess hall, or what we guess is the mess hall, we see the kids meeting with the other crew members and Millais and the others telling them that the colony civilians were taking to another colony and that as soon as they get to their supply point Dique can be transported there. Emily again starts to fret about Flit sounding like a soldier with the way he acts as though he’s not going with that. At this point out new hero, Woolf Enneacle burst and in his best daffy duck impression goes through the motions of asking what’s going on, why did they leave, who are all the people and finding time to flirt with Millais as she’s is not amused by Woolf. We also learn via Dique that Woolf was a former Mobile Suit grand prix racer before he quit to join the military.

Back to the hanger as Flit continues to fiddle with the Gundam and Woolf enters and of course being the arrogant pilot he is, acts like an arrogant pilot by talking down to the mechanic crew before seeing the Gundam and declaring it his new mobile suit. Flit of course takes offense and claims otherwise and they go back and forth before Woolf lets out that he’s the new commander of the mobile suit units on the ship. He also uses the logic that since he’s called “the white wolf” that he should have the white mobile suit like the Gundam. Flit of course doesn’t agree and they argue till Woolf suggests a friendly duel in their mobile suits to settle it: if Woolf wins he gets the Gundam, if Flit wins he keeps it. Flit is unsure about this but Emily accepts on his behalf, with the musing in her usual selfish way that if Flit loses he can leave with her and Dique when the time comes.

The duel starts but first we get to see the launching sequence for the Gundam from the Diva. Nothing special but it is the first time we actually see it. Anyway, the duel is with mock weapons between Flit piloting the Gundam and Woolf and his Genoace custom. Each hit is equal to a point with the computer and also delivers a small electrical shock to the pilot. Things don’t look good for Flit as he of course fights angry but as soon as Vargas yells at him to calm down he starts making a comeback, much to Woolf’s surprise. As things begin to escalate though a UE mobile suit shows up and starts to attack the pair.

At first it looks like trouble till Flit decides to go and take out the unit, which he almost does but is stopped by Woolf and pushes the Gundam behind a nearby asteroid as he points out that this unit isn’t alone as there are several others plus what appears to be a giant battleship. What’s worse is that the battleship doesn’t appear on their radar at all and as far as the Diva is concerned the Gundam and Genoace are just fighting a single unit. The disabled unit, the one Flit tried taking out starts moving again and Flit being Flit attacks it but is spotted by the others as Woolf has to defend him. Woolf then orders Flit to head back to the Diva and tell them what’s going on as he’ll cover the Gundam’s escape.

Getting back to the Diva, Flit immediately requests and gets the DOTS rifle before saying just that’s there’s trouble and racing away. Back with Woolf as he’s doing his best but is outgunned and his Genoace takes a hit to the leg. Just as it seems to be the end for Woolf the Gundam appears and makes the save by taking out one of the UE mobile suits. Things aren’t as easy as the other units are attacking and out gunning the Gundam and the Genoace. Woolf spots an asteroid in between all the UE forces and grabs the DOTS rifle and uses it to destroy it, creating cover so he and Flit can hide as the enemy forces move off with the battleship appearing to cloak and vanish.

Back on the Diva the crew talks about the damage to the Genoace as Emily frets even more while Flit and Woolf argue in the mess hall about what exactly happened during the fight. The episode ends with Godrek in his cabin looking at the data on the battleship and noting that he now knows who they are.

Nimrod’s Thoughts – Despite being around 24 mins in reality nothing much really happened. We finally get to meet Woolf and it seems he’s going to fill the role of the uber cocky pilot, much like Muu from SEED that will also help Flit. I’m also putting Woolf high in the deadpool as I can see him dying to save Flit, the crew and of course Millais as he’ll win her over. Speaking of women, Emily is really becoming quite the pain as her selfish attitude continues to cause more trouble for Flit. As we see something new in the form of the UE Battleship but sadly not much else nor do we have any face to put on the enemy other than their units.
