Episode 18 - The Sea of Lorelei
We start today with an unnamed ship sailing while the crew seems to be enjoying themselves. A torpedo puts a damper on their fun. A submarine carrying Orcs launches their Daughtseat 3 mobile suits. This Orc leader is named Marcus Guy. The crew of the defending ship valiantly defends their ship with rifles but their resolve is shaken by an incoming Daughtseat claw. Marcus Guy looks smugly at his catch when a Gundam Ashtaron rises from the water and grabs him with its claw. Marcus orders his Daughtseats not to fire and Olba commends his choice. Marcus asks what Olba wants and Olba offers a job. He wants a salvage operation in the sea of Lorelei.
Our usual heroes are stocking up on supplies. Sarah tells Jamil it’ll be about an hour to load everything. The helmsman says it’ll be hard to track the stray satellite system laser and Jamil reassures him that it’ll be easier with Tifa. Tonya comments on Tifa being more open. On the deck, Tifa walks up to Garrod and Sam and asks if she can help. The two of them are skeptical about making her carry boxes but the Doctor hands her a small box and tells her to bring it to the infirmary. He tells her not to drop it because it is expensive. The Doctor tells them that she is opening up and enjoying the other’s company. A man on the other ship comments on Tifa being cute. He says she’s probably as cute as the ghost of Lorelei.
As Olba and Marcus launch the Daughtseats, Garrod tells Tonya, Sarah, Roybea, Wits and Tifa about the “ghost of Lorelei”. He says there is a place where not even Orcs go because they’re afraid. Wits says it’s a load of bullshit and Roybea says that since the last war, ghosts should outnumber the living. Garrod says that sailors hear a woman singing. Sarah remembers the legend of ‘Lorelei’; a mythical girl who has golden hair. She sings songs that confuse sailors and then sinks their ships. The Doctor who has just entered begins reciting the poem about the legend. About halfway through, the lights go out and everyone panics. The lights go back on and Sam enters laughing his ass off. As he was reciting the poem though, we saw a box with a gold L on it and a woman in a gold capsule inside. The entertainment room sees the victims of Sam’s prank holding one another. Garrod lets go of Tifa, apologizes and blushes. Wits, who has latched onto Roybea tells Sam not to scare them like that again. Tonya calls Wits a scardey-cat and Wits storms off. Roybea says he should’ve stood by the girls. Sarah smiles and apologizes for the disappointment. The Doctor thanks Sam because he forgot the rest of the poem. Sarah enters Jamil’s quarters and hands him a manifest of what was purchased that day. She says Tifa is getting more cheerful. Jamil says it is thanks to everyone on the Freeden. Sarah asks if he had a time like that and he says he’ll tell her later.
Olba and his new Orc friends are found salvaging the GX Bits (small, unmanned MS that are equipped like and controlled by their respective Gundam). Olba telepathically tells Shagia that their plan is going well. Shagia reminds him that they’ll need the Flash System to make the G Bits respond to their bodies. Marcus’s submarine then sees a box with a golden L on it. Under the L are the letters UNE NTL. They recover it and try to figure out what it is. Without much of a choice, they open it. Tifa suddenly jerks and looks shocked while Olba and Marcus look at their find. Inside is a woman inside a gold capsule, connected to some machine.
In the Freeden’s hangar, Jamil is looking at the GX and a photograph of a young him with a woman. Tifa walks up to him and asks him to change course to the sea of Lorelei. Not too much later, Garrod runs into the bridge, followed by Roybea and Wits, and asks if they’re heading to the Sea of Lorelei. Jamil says they’re almost there. Wits makes a joke about fighting the ghost but Roybea says since it’s a cute ghost, they should be friends. Tifa, in her room, has her hands folded and asks someone to wait. Olba continues looking at his find and Shagia mentally tells him to keep looking for the G Bits. Marcus calls Olba up to the submarine’s bridge. They see the approaching Freeden and Olba says they have no choice but to attack.
While the Freeden is being rocked by a hurricane, the Orcs move in to attack. A torpedo nearly takes out the starboard engine. Jamil orders the Gundams to launch. Sam tells Garrod he gave the GX a bazooka for underwater. Slightly annoyed, Garrod asks why he only gave it to him now. Roybea teases Wits that he can’t come underwater but Wits says he’ll be the ship’s turret. As the Daughtseats launch to engage the Gundams, Tifa takes her hair band off and lets her hair flow down. As the Gundam team holds out, Tifa walks to the bridge with her head lowered. She enters and puts her hand on Jamil’s. A few Daughtseats grab the GX but meet their end from Garrod’s beam saber. Wits gets pulled underwater as Garrod moves toward the enemy submarine. The Ashtaron launches and grabs him. Olba tells him he’ll sink the Freeden. Garrod struggles to get out but can’t. Four torpedoes fly toward the Freeden. Neither Wits nor Roybea can move to stop them. Tifa squeezes Jamil’s hand and promises to protect him. Tifa focuses and her hair begins to wave. Seemingly in concert with the woman in the capsule, Tifa glows. Tifa opens her eyes and the woman in the capsule sends a sparkling light all over which appears to be disabling electronics. The Doctor remembers the rest of the poem and recites it. Tifa asks Jamil if he remembers her. Jamil realizes it is Lucille Liliant, his ally during the war who is possessing Tifa. We are left with the Freeden crew looking in awe at a glowing Tifa-Lucille.
Paul Jr’s Thoughts:
So the Frosts rejoin the fray and try to dig up weapons from the space war. What use could they have for them? The woman that Olba found was a friend of Jamil’s? How long has she been down there? What connection could she have to the GX Bits? What will Olba and Shagia do now that they have a real newtype in their grasp?
