Episode 21 - that's what my dead wife always said

Review by Paul McCartney Junior

The Freeden continues its search for the place where they saw the Satellite System send energy. Tifa is on the deck, trying to sense anything she can. Garrod goes to her and asks her not to work too hard. Then he says she has changed a lot. To her, Garrod is always being Garrod and he leaves to figure out the meaning of her remark. Sarah heads into Jamil’s quarters and asks him to expand the searching area. He says the last enemy they fought wasn’t an Orc and he has an idea who the enemy was but hopes to God he is wrong. At an unknown location, a group of Federation officials are seated in a meeting room, discussing what place to conquer next. The African continent fell to them last month and the Asian continent is putting up stiff resistance. One officer says they’ll need money for a war and another suggests Australia. South America is decimated by the colony drop and the old federation headquarters is unusable. North America has few big cities and Vultures roam free. Olba and Shagia’s friend, General Izmat, tells them they should focus on the Pacific Ocean. Jamil Neet is heading to an island there with 3 Gundams from the old Federation. Izmat is scolded for thinking too much of Newtypes. Another General piques in and says it’ll take more than one Gundam to change the world. He says the New Federation needs a new Gundam and a usable Newtype as a symbol. General Izmat is ordered to reinforce Zonda Epta, the island Jamil is heading to.

Izmat lands the plane inside Zonda Epta and is greeted by Olba and Shagia. They see that his meeting wasn’t well. The Freeden continues to search and calls back the Gundams. Garrod asks Wits if what Tifa says was praise. Wits says it’s the equivalent to saying he hasn’t matured at all. Roybea agrees with Wits. On Zonda Epta, Olba and Shagia find out they’ll be under the command of another man named Kadoc Azimille. They find him sleeping across a chair with a book in his face. Shagia wants to ‘test’ him and pulls a gun. Before anyone knows it, Kadoc draws his own and fires past Shagia’s head. He reminds Shagia that Shagia drew first and it would be self defense if Shagia had been shot. In the commander’s room, they read off Kadoc’s record which isn’t very flattering. Olba says Kadoc is capable as a soldier but Izmat disagrees. He begins to speak about Newtypes but Kadoc says he’s not interested. In the hangar, they have just received the new mass production mobile suit, Valiant. Olba and Shagia look at the Valiants while discussing what to do. They agree that if the operation fails, they’ll have no choice but to kill him but if it succeeds they’ll continue to act as followers.

Kadoc’s plan is to act as fishermen who were shot up by Orcs. He has his men stand in a room full of fish so they smell like it too. They send out a distress signal that Good Ol’ Jamil can’t ignore. Soon their ship is onboard the Freeden and Kadoc says he is a fisherman who was attacked by Orcs. Tonya comments on how they smell like fish and Kadoc apologizes. As the New Federation’s mobile suits take off, Sarah shows the fisherman to the Freeden’s guest room. After their guests enter the guest room, one of them grabs Sarah around the neck and tells her not to make noise. He receives an elbow to the stomach and she shuts the door. The lights go on and these fishermen are staring down the guns of several members of the Freeden crew. At Jamil’s order, Kadoc and his men drop their concealed Uzis and surrender. As Kadoc wonders how they found out, Tonya pats Tifa on the head and thanks her. Tifa soon senses something and rushes to the guest room to tell Jamil that enemies are approaching.

Kadoc realizes Tifa smoked him out and seizes this chance to split. He pushes Jamil and Garrod aside and his men follow him out. The Virsago and Ashtaron are quickly approaching the Freeden followed by a storm of Valiants. The Gundam team launches and notices the strange Gundams are back. Roybea prepares to be the Freeden’s turret as the mechanics lock and load assault rifles. The Doctor pulls a magnum from his desk and checks the magazine. Jamil and a mechanic are chasing the heels of Kadoc and his men as the Ashtaron shows its new weapon, a beam gun with two retractable heat blades. Roybea fires at the Ashtaron while Garrod engages the Valiants. Wits tries to assist Garrod but the Virsago stops him with a punch to the cockpit. Wits follow up with a kick to the side. Garrod realizes that the Valiants and the Frost Brothers are from the military. Kadoc and his men run into a room and blow the emergency hatch off. Kadoc orders his men to go first and they do.

Jamil kicks the door open and points it at Kadoc. Kadoc mutters something about seeing his dead wife again and Tifa jumps up and says she can’t let him die. Garrod keeps his cool and takes out several Valiants with his harmonica cannon. Shagia notes that he is getting better. Shagia and Olba see Kadoc’s men swimming and realize there is no reason to fight. Their chat is interrupted by Wits who fires at them. Shagia pulls back and Olba throws his spear gun, clipping Wits’s wing. One Valiant pilot insists they wait until Kadoc is safe but gets Shagia’s answer from the beams in Virsago’s hands. Olba kills the men swimming away before he leaves. As Jamil is ready to shoot Kadoc, Kadoc pulls out a grenade. Tifa runs up and hugs him and says he has to live. Jamil tells her to get away from him. Tifa says that Kadoc has to live and Kadoc drops the grenade. Jamil swoops in and picks up the grenade and ditches it out the missing hatch. Kadoc asks why Tifa didn’t let him die and Tifa says he is a kind person. We’re left with him looking shocked at what Tifa said.

Paul Jr’s Thoughts:
It’s like they read my last few reviews across time. We now know that the new federation is around causing trouble. Their plan to capture the Freeden was kind of ingenious but Tifa got her chance to save the day again. So what will Kadoc do with himself? What effect did Tifa have on him?
