Episode 22 - the ghost from 15 years ago

Review by Paul McCartney Junior

Jamil questions Kadoc but Kadoc won’t say anything. As Kadoc goes to put gum in his mouth, Jamil slaps it away and tells him to take it seriously. Kadoc tells him not to yell and calls him ‘Mr. Hero’. He says Jamil had a good reputation in the Federation until the Colonies crashed to earth. He tells Jamil he thinks newtypes are just traumatized people and sees no reason to protect them. The Doctor says Jamil is too nice and wonders if that is his strength or his weakness. Ennil’s Esparanza is being chased by the Frost Brothers for something she apparently saw. She must’ve evaded a group of Valiants too. Kadoc sits in his cell, looking at a picture of a woman and child while Tifa draws away at her canvas. In the bridge, Tonya is asking why Tifa can’t sense anything now. In the hangar, Kid explains once the Flash system registers a GX model, a newtype is no longer needed.

The Gundam team launches to continue searching as Jamil looks a photo of him from 15 years ago. Ennil can’t shake the Frosts but shoots a downed ship to cause an explosion. The Frosts are momentarily stunned but quickly continue pursuit. The Ashtaron transforms into crab mode and flies after the Esparanza. Ennil dodges a shot but is caught in Ashtaron’s claw. Ennil plummets and is immobile in the water. As Shagia is ready to blast her with the chest cannon, the Gundam team rides to her rescue. Olba and Shagia have no choice but to fall back but not before blasting the Esparanza with the Virsago’s chest cannon. The blast causes a wave that prevents the Gundam team from pursuing. Garrod looks down at the Esparanza’s remains to find see Ennil’s wounded body.

Ennil is rushed to the Freeden’s infirmary as Wits and Roybea comment on her looks. They ask if Garrod knows her and he says ‘kind of’. Tonya runs alongside Ennil’s bed and talks to her. Ennil says she saw a Gundam before passing out. They use the Esparanza’s data to figure out where the Gundam was. Garrod says there is a need to investigate and Jamil agrees. The Freeden advances but want to wait until the moon is down before they attack. Jamil goes into the brig and talks to Kadoc about what he said last time. Jamil says the reason he protects newtypes is to avoid the tragedy from last time and because it is comforting to him. Kadoc says he’s a frail man but his dead wife always said that it takes a strong man to show it. He says he understands Jamil but will not accept him. Kadoc stands up and passionately declares he hates newtypes. He says that while newtypes were out doing simulations, real soldiers were fighting man to man. Then when the tragedy came it was Jamil who pulled the trigger. That is why Kadoc hates newtypes. Kadoc sits down and says the Island is Zonda Epta and a ghost from 15 years ago is waiting for Jamil.

On Zonda Epta, General Izmat orders the troops to begin the plan to capture the Freeden. In the Freeden’s hangar, Garrod, Wits and Roybea are coming up with a tactic for beating the Valiants. They decide that breaking up their formation is their best bet. In the brig, Kadoc gets out a black piece of gum. The Frosts along with an army of Valiants begin to assault the Freeden. The Gundam team launches and the Freeden stays put. Kadoc’s piece of gum was a plastic explosive that he uses to blow the lock off the door. He knocks out the guard outside and takes his rifle. Garrod attacks the Virsago and Ashtaron and handles both of them well. As Wits and Roybea make quick work of the Valiants, Kadoc enters the bridge with his rifle. He makes them move the ship and the Gundam team has no choice but to follow.

Kadoc points the rifle at Jamil’s head and invites him to greet the Double X while there is a moon. He tells Jamil that the Double X is the Federation’s new Gundam made from Jamil’s old GX. At Zonda Epta, Izmat orders everyone to get the Double X ready. As the Freeden comes into view of Zonda Epta, Jamil asks Kadoc why he is doing this. Kadoc reminds Jamil of the colony he destroyed during the war. He informs Jamil that on that colony was his wife and daughter. He wants to give Jamil the terror of dying from a Satellite System attack. The Frosts and the Valiants pull back as the satellite system beam hits the Double X. General Izmat demands that the Freeden disarm and surrender. Kadoc tells Jamil that fighting the Double X is like fighting himself since it was made from Jamil’s old one. Jamil sends up the orange flare and tells Izmat he surrenders. Jamil wonders if he’ll be executed and Kadoc says he’s too pessimistic. Tifa walks in, holding her drawing and is grabbed by Kadoc who didn’t see it was her. He lets her go and picks up the dropped painting to see a picture of his wife and daughter. Tifa says it’s so he won’t lose hope and the sun begins to rise as the Freeden pulls into Zonda Epta’s harbor.

Paul Jr’s Thoughts:
Just after Ennil found a reason to join them, something like this happens. Jamil used his better judgment and surrendered even though the Double X was a bluff. Well I guess we’ll have to wait to find out what happens to our heroes. And what about Ennil El? This cant is good for someone in a hospital bed.
