Episode 24 - double x! activate!

Review by Paul McCartney Junior

To hell with episode intros! We find Roybea, Wits, Sarah and Tonya exchanging fire with Izmat’s men. Sam is throwing them full magazines when theirs are depleted. He says women are tough when in trouble, and then he adds “so are kids” and with a grin, fires an ATP at the enemy. As the Doctor and Ennil are being led away, Doctor says he shouldn’t have told her the plan to escape but doesn’t regret it. Ennil says she feels like she should atone for it. She undoes a few buttons on her smock and pulls it slightly down. Doc tells her it is more than enough and while we and the guards are busy with naughty thoughts, Doctor notices she has a flash bang grenade hiding in her cleavage. She throws it and knocks out both guards during the flash. Doc tells her she did well and she repays his complement with one of the guard’s guns. They move out as Garrod and Kadoc are hanging onto life preservers from Izmat’s ship. On the ship, Tifa senses Garrod and Kadoc’s actions and tells Jamil that their friends are fighting against the future. The guard leading them orders them into a room. Jamil says he’ll fight the future as well and gives that guard a roundhouse kick to the head. The other guard begins firing but none of it hits Jamil, who rushes toward him and knocks him out with the kicked guard’s gun.

As Jamil and Tifa take off, Izmat gets the notification that Jamil is escaping. Then he gets told there are intruders in the Aft. The camera switches over to the Aft where Garrod and Kadoc are in Rambo mode, running down the hall. Izmat orders the ship to be sealed and no prisoners allowed to escape. As soldiers run by, Shagia and Olba agree that it is time to move to the next phase of their plan. Shagia says it is time to call a flock of seagulls. * Not the band :( * The Freeden team still on Zonda Epta continues their battle in the hallway when a small tank pulls in to support the enemy. It turns it’s turret toward our crew and fires. Before the shots can come close, another tank armed with a 180mm cannon pulls between them. The new tank turns its own turret on the enemy tank and blows a hole in it before the entire thing turns into scrap metal. The victor tank opens its door and hey! Ennil El and Doctor were inside all along! Tonya jumps at the sight of her friend while Garrod and Kadoc are pinned down in a corridor.

Garrod tells Kadoc that he’s a good guy. Kadoc says his dead wife would agree. They pop out from their hiding spots and fire as Izmat realizes their plan to steal the Double X. Garrod and Kadoc force entry into the hangar and Kadoc closes the door and destroys the keypad. Kadoc notices the flashing of a scope and tackles Garrod. A sniper’s bullet narrowly misses him and ricochets off the floor. Kadoc drags Garrod to the safe cover of a crate. Kadoc looks around and studies where the scopes are and then pulls Garrod’s head out of another bullet’s path. Kadoc says they have a ways to go and gives Garrod a piece of gum. Their respite is shortened by Izmat’s men cutting the door open with welders. Kadoc realizes it’ll all be over if they come in and asks Garrod if he trusts him. Tifa and Jamil stand in front of a door and Jamil asks Tifa to confirm if this is where “it” is. Tifa gives a nod. The welders looking to ice Garrod and Kadoc are close to finishing the wall between them. Kadoc tells Garrod he needs to believe in people like Tifa says, and then tells him not to die. Garrod sprints toward the Double X, drawing the attention of the snipers. Kadoc shoots them all as their barrels flash. He turns on the door and pins down the soldiers outside. Garrod climbs into the Double X. Just before we’re about to hear a well earned “Double X, Ikimasu!” his hand connects with nothing! The G-Con is missing!

That evil bastard, General Izmat is still in his office, holding the G-Con and glorifying his intelligence. Unluckily for him, Tifa and Jamil found the old G-Con and are rushing it to Garrod. Garrod goes back down to support Kadoc and relieves Kadoc of a gun. (Can you believe this is only half the episode?!) On Zonda Epta, the Freeden crew has busted out the mechanics and any other miscellaneous support staff. Roybea and Wits agree it is way too quiet. The Frosts are talking about Zonda Epta’s evacuation and Shagia says he wonders who will own the Double X when the Flock of seagulls arrive.

Garrod and Kadoc run out of ammo. Their foes see a chance and move in for the kill. A smoke grenade downs their morale. The sound of folks getting punched and guards grunting in pain echoes out of the cloud. As the smoke literally clears, the lone figure of Jamil stands victorious. Tifa walks next to Jamil as Jamil informs Garrod of their find. Garrod runs to Tifa and receives the G-Con. Tifa says she wants to fight the future as well. Another group of guards converges at the door. Kadoc runs in front of Jamil as they open fire. Jamil fires back and causes them to disperse. Jamil pins down the attackers as Tifa and Garrod drag Kadoc to safety. Kadoc tells Tifa to take care of Garrod for him, and then tells Garrod that he is right; the Gundam and the war have nothing to do with him. Kadoc tells him not to be burdened and to live freely before he passes away in Garrod and Tifa’s arms.

“Jamil, cover me,” Garrod says. Jamil complies and Garrod runs for the Gundam X. Izmat has made his way to the hangar and orders men with ATPs to fire on Garrod when he is near the cockpit. As Garrod rides the lift to the Double X’s cockpit, a rocket comes dangerously close to him. Jamil guns down one of the men and the other fires. The rocket hits the lift just after Garrod jumps off it. After landing square in the cockpit, the G-Con is in and Garrod can give his well deserved “Double X, Ikimasu!” A few brave soldiers fire at the Double X but lose their resolve to a few dangerously close Vulcan shots. Garrod picks up Jamil, Tifa and Kadoc, blows a hole in the side of the ship and leaves.

After he’s outside, he sees the Freeden has been regained by the crew. They wonder who is in the Double X at first but after seeing Jamil and Tifa in its hands, they realize it is Garrod. Garrod sets down Tifa, Jamil and Kadoc and moves to engage an approaching group of Valiants. The Double X can’t be hit by the Valiants as Garrod fights on. Jamil reclaims his captain’s seat. Ennil wants to fess up to the crew for selling them out but the Doctor says she more than nullified it. He tells her to wait until her wound is healed before she makes a decision on what to do. Garrod draws the Double X’s beam saber and slashes a Valiant as Izmat yells about getting the Virsago and Ashtaron into battle. He yells for Shagia and Olba as Garrod runs in another Valiant. Wits is in the Freeden hangar, holding Sam by the collar and demanding they salvage the Airmaster. He says that Garrod can’t fight alone but Roybea points out the window and say that Garrod very well can.

Garrod brandishes the other beam saber as well and stabs 2 valiants at once. As he is panting and catching his breath, Shagia’s flock of seagulls shows up as a large task force of New Federation Valiants and Carriers. Shagia and Olba enter the bridge of Izmat’s ship and hold him at gunpoint. Garrod stares down his new swarm of enemies. He gets an idea and decides to call the satellite system. Garrod opens up the solar panels and Jamil calls the laser. Shagia and Olba inform Izmat that he is the springboard to the next phase. Izmat says that he treated them as real newtypes even though they’re just category F’s. Shagia tells him that Category F’s and not Newtypes will change the world. Garrod now has the Double X charged and fires on Zonda Epta. With Izmat dead, the flock of seagulls decides to run. The Freeden’s crew complements Garrod for making them retreat with the satellite cannon and Tifa says that Kadoc changed him.

While the dust is settling, Lord Bloodman is in a city hall, giving a speech. He talks about the state the world is in. As he speaks of uniting the world and ending confusion, the Freeden lowers Kadoc’s casket. Jamil salutes his former comrade and Bloodman declares the foundation of the New Federation.

Paul Jr’s thoughts:
Holy shit that was a great episode! The Freeden now has 4 Gundams and a new friend in Ennil. There is a New Federation government being founded that appear to be the higher power behind Shagia and Olba. I could probably ask fifty questions now but we’ll leave it with what is going to happen now?
