Episode 28 - must i shoot?
Yurina leaves for work and Roybea hugs her as she is leaving. Once she is out of sight, he goes under her bed and pulls out a box of weapons. With a disgusted look, he says, “Man, everyone is the same”. As the mechanics are enjoying their last meal in Estard, Sam reminds them they’ll be back to cardboard food tomorrow so eat as much as possible. Willis and Garrod stand on a balcony in the capitol building. Willis tells Garrod he is strong but Garrod disagrees. Willis points out that Garrod finds his own goals and wishes he could be strong like that. As Tifa watches Garrod and Willis, a politician asks Jamil something about Willis. The Freeden leaves and Tonya and Sarah worry about Roybea.
In the New Federation base, the Frosts show their new goon to the ropes. This one is Lieutenant Miraru Drido. He pilots the massive mobile suit, Gable. The Frosts ask if he is scared but he replies he almost wishes for death. He says his ambition is to push as hard as he can go and as a result, die. In Yurina’s house, she tells Roybea he should return to the Freeden. She says he is like a kid. He acts like an adult but runs from the real answer. Roybea agrees and there is a knock on the door. Roybea answers it to find it is for him. The group of men enters and sits down at the table. Roybea refuses to join their fight and asks Yurina to explain her ‘toys’ under the bed. One man pulls a gun and threatens Roybea’s life if he won’t help free the area. Yurina runs in front of Roybea and gets asked if she has gone mad. She tells them they’re the crazy ones and are operating just like the New Federation. The drama is cut short as New Federation troops pour into the village. The 3 guerillas escape out the window as Roybea decides what to do.
Yurina and Roybea start for the window. As she jumps out, a high powered sniper rifle delivers a shot to her chest. Taking cover behind some crates, Roybea cradles Yurina. In a canyon, the Freeden is moving when they find Willis. It seems Jamil’s plan is to help him flee. Garrod runs out to Willis and his politician. Willis wonders if what he is doing can be forgiven. His emotional bout is cut short by the Gable marching around the corner. In no time, the Double X and Leopard launch while the Frosts simply watch from the rim. Normal beams do nothing to the behemoth and Wits suggests using mobility. He flies up and transforms into the bird mode but his shots do nothing. He evades a punch from the Gable but loses control and crashes.
Garrod fires and distracts the Gable, enough to make Miraru forget about crushing Wits. In the bridge, Jamil asks Willis if this is his first time witnessing a battle. He says yes and Tifa walks in and says she has a bad feeling. Her bad feeling was the Gastar army moving to stop Willis. Commander Romanov is questioned by an officer if Gastar’s movement defies their agreement with Estard. He says it isn’t in violation of the agreement as it is Gastar’s force and not the New Federations. In an alleyway, the Guerilla forces are being mowed by the New Federation Soldiers. Roybea continues to hold Yurina’s dying body and she reminds him he has someone aboard the Freeden. As she dies, the surviving Guerilla tells Roybea to leave. To cover his retreat, the man pulls the pin on a grenade, stuffs it under his coat and charges headlong into the crossfire.
As the guerilla finds a heroic end, the Freeden has their hands full against the Gable. All beams do are get reflected by it’s I field and kick up dust. Through a dust cloud, the Gable picks up Garrod. After Garrod receives a thrashing from the Gable’s massive arms, Jamil asks if the GX is ready. Kid says he got it to work without the G-Con and Jamil goes. Willis asks him if he will fight too and Jamil says that anyone on the ship will fight if they must. A few shots from the GX allow Garrod to break free while Roybea speeds like a demon toward the Freeden. As both the Gundams and the ship are taking heavy fire, Roybea arrives and takes his Leopard.
Roybea soars into the air and comes down on the Gable with a rain of Gatling fire. Jamil tells him that beams won’t work so Roybea tries another tactic. He enters a Greco lock with the Gable and after the Leopard’s hands are crushed, he opens up his set of shoulder missiles on the giant. He breaks free, leaving the Leopard’s hands with the Gable and launches the leg missiles. Roybea hammers the Gable with his Gatling arm and the smaller gun on his right arm and moves into point blank range. He fires at such a close range that the payload damages his own arms. While the Gable reels from Roybea’s onslaught, the Frosts decide to leave. With the Gable’s I field disabled by Roybea’s conventional weapons, the other Gundams open fire with their beam weapons and bring the behemoth down to its knees.
True to his crackhead style, Miraru savors the moment of his death. Suddenly, Gastar’s forces are staring at the Freeden and Garrod prepares the satellite cannon. Willis surrenders to Gastar’s forces despite protests of his politician. Back in Estard, Rooks has a meal prepared for Willis, who is finally ready to lead his nation. Rooks says he will take the blame for starting the war and receive his execution. Willis cries and hugs him and Rooks says that is the last time he may cry in front of another person. The next day, the treaty is hammered out with the New Federation and Estard loses its independence. Garrod sulks on the Freeden’s deck as Tifa looks on. The Freeden continues on to God knows where.
Paul Jr’s Thoughts:
Roybea stole the cake for this episode. His going ape shit on the Gable not only gave some amazing and memorable screenshots, it gave an opening for him to upgrade the Leopard. It seems like the Freeden’s morale is getting low so we’ll only be able to see where this all can take them.
