Episode 33 - how do you know me?

Review by Paul McCartney Junior

The cruiser that Paula brought Garrod onto docks into Satelicon’s base, the narrator then enlightens us that Satelicon is a group against the ‘newtypeism’ of Cloud Nine. Garrod is rushed into the emergency room while Paula says she won’t sleep well if he dies. Cloud Nine is a in a better mood. They are holding a parade lead by Lord Zidel to honor the efforts of Nichola and co. Zidel sees that Nichola brought Tifa with him and questions under his breath why Nichola would disobey him. Tifa asks Nichola why he brought her and he tells her it was so she could see how people in space are. Tifa has a newtype moment and senses danger. Nichola warns Zidel that Tifa sensed danger but Zidel says he doesn’t care. As if Tifa is ever wrong, the armored car in front of the pack rolls over a landmine. Soldiers pour into the street to protect Zidel as he stares at the destroyed car ahead of him. Nichola asks Zidel if he will acknowledge Tifa’s ability now. Zidel merely stares at Tifa with a less than friendly look.

Back at Zidel’s mansion, his attendant reports that Satelicon was behind the assassination attempt. They declared to every colony that Zidel is a ‘tyrant dressed in newtypeism’. He says that he believes all spacenoids will become newtypes and says they probably should clean out Satelicon before commencing Operation Daria. On his hospital bed, Garrod sees Tifa’s image telling him to get up. He jumps and hugs what he thinks is Tifa and finds his arms around Paula. Paula shoves him off and tells him a wounded person shouldn’t move. Garrod asks who she is. Paula introduces herself and informs him that she saved his life. He introduces himself and tries to get up to leave. He makes it one step off the bed before collapsing. Paula tells him he’s been out for 5 days. He says he really has to go but she stops him. He insists his spirit is enough to overcome a wound and she says that spirit means nothing in reality.

She takes him to Satelicon’s hangar where they see the Double X, beat like hell. Garrod asks her to repair it. She says they will only if he joins Satelicon. Garrod agrees and Paula welcomes him aboard. She tells him that they’ll be partners from now on. He asks her why and she tells him that the G Falcon is a revamped Old Federation machine that can combine with the Double X. Paula tells Satelicon’s leader that Garrod will help stop operation Daria and Garrod watches a slide show on a laptop on the Double X and G Falcon combining. Paula walks in, bringing food for him and asks if he was thinking about Tifa. He asks how she knows about Tifa and she informs him he was saying her name all the time while he was unconscious. Paula asks Tifa is his girlfriend and he turns red and only admits that he cares for her. Paula slaps him on the back and after a coughing fit; Garrod asks why she joined Satelicon. Paula tells him that her parents were space refugees and she was born on their ship. When Satelicon rescued their ship, very few of them were still alive. Paula’s parents were both dead Garrod says that the Earth wasn’t much different.

Zidel’s attendant hands him a folder and says they have located Satelicon’s base. Lancelow Dowell docks at Cloud Nine and is soon meeting with Zidel. Lancelow apparently told Zidel that they need to reconsider their plan because Zidel rephrased his question and asked what he meant. Lancelow explains that though they must get rid of their opposition, which is no excuse to test inhumane weapons. Zidel tells him to watch his mouth. Lancelow says he only voices his opinion as a soldier of the battlefield. Zidel asks him if his arrogance comes from being a former newtype. That comment appears to shut Lancelow up as Zidel tells him he is a great newtype who survived the last war. Zidel asks Lancelow if he supports Operation Daria and promises not to arrest him for his opinion. He says that though war is war, there is a line that no human being is allowed to cross.

Lancelow is next seen walking away with a downed look. He feels something and turns to see Tifa. He asks if Tifa touched his mind just then. Tifa nods and Lancelow realizes she is the newtype from Earth. Tifa says she wanted to see him because he reminds her of Jamil. Lancelow jumps and asks if she knows Jamil Neet. Tifa nods again. The Double X is lifted up, fully repaired, and Garrod jumps onto it and hugs the ‘mouth’. While he is nuzzling the Gundam, Paula throws him a pilot’s suit to ‘celebrate his recovery’. She jokes about putting a hole in it but their high spirit is shaken by an explosion outside the base.

The Space Revolution Army’s fleet rains beams on the base and a captain orders to launch all mobile suits. As the Space Revolution Army’s Croudas launch, Satelicon launches their ship, Alarnam and their small number of orange Jenices. Garrod wants to get in the Double X but a mechanic tells him they have one more check to do. Paula tells Garrod to put on the pilot suit while he has the chance. Outside, the Alarnam takes heavy fire. The Jenices and their conventional weapons don’t do jack against the strong armored Croudas. The normal Croudas hammer the Jenices with their beam weaponry while Lancelow in his custom Crouda looks for the Double X.

Zidel’s opinion on Tifa appears to have changed as he holds a dinner for her. He says he’s always wanted to hear her opinion on the future of newtypes. She asks him to throw away the power he plans to use because it will bring great sadness. He gives a one word answer, “no”. The Alarnam is now badly damaged and its captain screams out orders to fire. The Croudas silence the Alarnam’s turrets and one uses beam wings to cut the side of Alarnam open. Double X and G Falcon launch while the Alarnam blows up. Garrod and Paula go to work on the Croudas but beams only melt small parts of their armor. The last Jenice is destroyed and Satelicon’s leader can only look on in anger. Garrod enters a deadlock with a Crouda and by luck fires a shot through the Crouda’s front thruster. He shoots one Crouda off of Paula’s back and tells her his new tactic. She follows suit and they each kill another Crouda.

Garrod turns to fire on another enemy when he sees Lancelow’s Crouda. Lancelow fires a beam to connect with Garrod’s, causing an explosion. Garrod gets knocked back into Satelicon’s asteroid and Lancelow pins him down. Lancelow asks if his opponent is Garrod Ran and Garrod wonders how the enemy knows his name. Lancelow asks what Jamil is doing now. A Space Revolution Captain orders the fleet to fire photon missiles while Lancelow has told Garrod that he knows Tifa. Lancelow asks Garrod if Jamil is with the New Federation. Garrod gives a hell no response and tells him that they’ve been fighting the New Federation. Garrod says that Jamil is fighting to keep newtypes from being used as tools of war. Lancelow is taken aback by this and Garrod insists he answer to where Tifa is. Garrod says he will not return to Earth without her. Lancelow asks if he seriously went through all that just for Tifa to which Garrod nods and Lancelow stares.

Paula sees the Crouda and Double X and rightfully assumes that Garrod is in trouble. She shoots the Crouda. Lancelow spins out but regains balance, only to get the order to pull back for the photon missiles. Photon missiles fire and Lancelow orders Garrod to get the hell out of dodge. The photon missiles strike the asteroid, quickly shredding it. Garrod tries to get away but can’t ignite the thrusters. Paula comes to his rescue by combining the G Falcon and Double X. He thanks her as they speed away. She tells him to look at what the Space Revolution Army can do. The asteroid is now little more than fragments

Lord Zidel tells his attendant that now that Satelicon is done for, they can focus on Earth. His attendant asks if they will begin Operation Daria. He nods while Tifa prays that he won’t use that power. Operation Daria, it would seem, is a plan to rebuild the abandoned Colony Laser and use it to strike Earth directly. The Colony Laser is expected to be completed shortly.

Paul Jr’s Thoughts:
So now the Space Revolution Army has brought Gryps 2 back to life. That and their nuclear weapons make them just as bad as the New Federation. Now my questions run to Lancelow. Tifa seems to have an effect on everyone she meets. Did she inspire him enough to act against Operation Daria?
