Episode 38 - I am Dome, people once called me a Newtype
The Battle in space between the New Federation and Space Revolution army rages on with neither side having a clear advantage. Zidel proclaims that the Goddess of Victory will smile on whoever reaches the moon. Bloodman orders his men to stop the Space Revolution army from reaching the moon. Shagia fires on a Crouda and sees that his beams can’t pierce its armor. He wraps the Virsago’s long arms around it, tears off the head and fires into the exposed area. Olba catches another Crouda in Ashtaron’s large claws and cuts it in 2. Lancelow arrives in his Crouda and says the future he envisioned was not the hell he sees now.
On the Freeden’s bridge, Jamil adds that their objective, other than the microwave system, is to survive. In the hangar, Sam yells at the other mechanics to make sure they’re doing the adjustments right. Wits says to him that he will come back alive. Ennil asks him if he’ll fight for Tonya and he blushes and yells at her. Roybea says he won’t die either, until he has an answer. In an elevator, Sarah asks Jamil what he will do after the war. He says he will think about that after he knows the answer to Dome. Sarah looks at him and says she is waiting for an answer too. In the locker room, Carris asks Tifa and Garrod what they will do. Tifa says she will be with Garrod. Paula laughs at how she says that without hesitation. Garrod says he wants to travel and learn. Paula questions what kind of future she wants. Carris says there is probably as many futures as people in the world.
Lancelow fires at several Valiants and tells them not to die for nothing. The Frosts fire at him and Olba says there is no room for mercy on the battlefield. Olba punches the Crouda and Shagia moves in for the kill but is stopped by the Satellite System’s microwave. Both armies pull out of the way as they see the Double X riding the hull of the Freeden and readying the satellite cannon. The Freeden’s mobile suits move out, with the exception of Ennil who guards the Freeden because her Jenice can’t keep up with the Gundams. It’s about now that both armies realize they’ve been duped and want to take out the Double X with their respective enemy. Jamil orders the units to spread out and protect the Double X. Roybea fires on a swarm of Valiants while Wits and Paula engage the Croudas. Wits tells Garrod, Jamil and Carris to go on ahead. Jamil orders them not to die.
Tifa tells Garrod to look out just before Virsago’s chest beam would’ve struck the Freeden team. Virsago and Ashtaron move in with a swarm of New Daughtresses. Carris thinks the Daughtresses only have beam cutter weapons so Jamil tells everyone to keep their distance. The Daughtresses reveal that they can indeed shoot and pin Jamil and Carris down. Shagia grabs Garrod’s gun and says that war is the best way to change the world. Olba crushes Garrod’s shield and says they need to correct both the powerless oldtypes and powerful newtypes. The Frosts claim that they alone should be valued. Tifa covers her ears and says she can feel enough hate in them to destroy the world. Garrod asks why they want to change the world. Shagia says they have a special power but were ignored because of their incompatibility with the Flash System. Olba grabs the Double X by the arms and Shagia puts his claw across the throat. Shagia and Olba go on about the pain of powerful people who aren’t valued. They say that once they destroy the world, a new one will begin and that is their goal. Garrod asks how they can be so selfish and thrusts out of Ashtaron’s grip. He says he is sick of them and punches the Virsago in the face, then follows up with a shot to the abdomen. He delivers one punch to the neck and kicks the Virsago away. Olba tries to attack Garrod but gets punched in the head as well, followed by an uppercut. Shagia moves in and smacks the Double X a few times. Olba grabs the Double X by the feet and Shagia charges his chest cannon. Jamil hops in front of the Double X but Lancelow flies in and shoots the Virsago. Jamil tells Garrod to go on ahead and asks if Lancelow is going to help them. Carris returns and stops the Daughtresses from pursuing.
The Freeden is now damaged but still holding up. It catches up to Wits and Jamil’s groups and Jamil says he is counting on Garrod. Bloodman and Zidel both see that the Double X is moving toward Dome. They assume that Garrod and Tifa want the power of the ‘newtype that was concealed by the oldtypes’. Three bit mobile suits launch from the moon and greet the Double X. One of them gestures toward the moon and escorts it down. Bloodman says that a newtype exists in there but wonders what else. Tifa asks the bits to lead the people who must see the truth down to the moon. The bits circle Jamil and the Frosts without firing. Olba realizes that they are trying to capture them. The bits surround Bloodman’s ship and order him to call a cease-fire and report to the 1st space dock on the microwave system. The bits follow suit with the Freeden and Zidel’s ship. Shagia downs several bits with his chest cannon and sees the leaders’ ships docking. He says they are fools because they still want newtypes.
Inside of Dome, Tifa says that the others have come. Zidel and Lancelow enter in one door and Zidel asks what the place is. Bloodman and the Freeden crew do the same. Jamil asks if this is Dome. Tifa nods and Zidel realizes the same. Lancelow approaches Jamil and asks if he is Jamil. Jamil realizes that he must be Lancelow and the two approach each other. They are about to shake hands when Zidel yells at Bloodman. He asks if it really is Dome. Bloodman says that the entire system is the first newtype. The Frosts approach the moon and someone yells at them, asking on whose authority are they moving. A Space Revolution captain sees that New Federation mobile suits are moving and fires on them to keep them from the moon.
Back in Dome, Zidel blames the fact that oldtypes did not want acknowledge newtypes and dismantled the first newtype down to the genes and incorporated him into the system on the moon. Bloodman says the reason for preserving the first newtype in Dome was to stop the selfish believe that newtypes are only connected to space and Earthnoids are inferior. Zidel says that newtypes have evolved from being in space and Jamil tells them both to shut up. The Frosts smile that they’ve restarted the war and order an infiltration force to go down to the moon. Jamil steps between Bloodman and Zidel and says he hasn’t found his answer yet but did find something else. He turns to Zidel and yells “A newtype is not God! We are not tools to advocate doctrine either!” Then Jamil turns to Bloodman and none the less passionate says “Neither are we an existence for oldtypes to take advantage of!” He looks around and then says “nobody has the right to turn someone’s life into this. Tifa says Dome is not dead yet. She closes her eyes and asks Dome to feel her mind and reveal everything. The room lights up and everyone looks in shock. Lancelow says to Jamil that during the battle, he wondered where they went wrong. Jamil says that it will soon be revealed. White petals of light and a blue ball of light, just like Tifa’s dream float down. Seemingly from the blue ball of light comes a voice that says “I am D.O.M.E., people once called me a newtype”
Paul Jr’s Thoughts:
Here we have one hell of an episode. The Frosts really are childish assholes. Jamil and Lancelow appear to have a mutual respect for each other which should probably pull through in the final battle to come. I found it strange that Zidel and Bloodman seemed familiar with each other. So now we’re about to find the truth about Newtypes. What is going to happen now?
