Stage 2

Review by Nimrod

And here we go, onto the final episode of this series. What will happen with the stargazer? What will happen to Sven? Selene? Will it make more sense than Destiny in the end? Let’s start up the show and find out…

We start off with someone working on a communications satellite in space and it turns out they are disarming it. Dum dum dum! Meanwhile, back at the Troya station, the various scientists are watching the news reports discussing what’s going on in Seed: Destiny. Selene is also discussing the progress of the Stargazer’s A.I. when all contact with the outside world goes black. Uh oh. That’s never a good sign...

Sven and the forces of Phantom Pain arrive and alert the station that they are taking control of it, allowed to use extreme prejudice if necessary. It’s turns out to be necessary as the Stations defences, aka civilian Astrays try to fight off the invaders but are just getting wiped out by Sven and the other Mobile suits in his force. Methinks the DSSD doesn’t have any real hard core soldiers there given how quickly they are being over-run. It is during this time that Selene and Sol climb into the stargazer and begin to power it up. It looks like the Stargazer is going to try and fight, which should be interesting given its unknown what sort of weapons it has. Turns out it only has 17 minutes of full power to fight too. Wanna bet they use up the power before they finish off the enemies? The Stargazer starts by wiping out a bunch of the Grunt suits and then moves onto the Strike Noir.

Things don’t look good for the folks of the DSSD now that the Phantom Pain has what they want and the troops are given orders to destroy the rest of the station if they wish, which the Verde Buster beings to do. Oh Noez! The giant organic looking hand is destroyed. That old guy’s life’s work is down the drain.

Meanwhile, the Stargazer and the Noir are fighting it out in the unfinished part of the station as the Verde still is destroying the station. At this point, the Verde gets the call to return because it’s running low on juice but Shams isn’t listening as he’s lost it. Bye bye to your energy Verde, now you’re screwed. Screwed he is as a bunch of Astrays surround him and just gun him down like Sonny Corleone at the tollbooth in the Godfather.

Back with the Stargazer-Strike Noir fight, the Stargazer has employed energy strings that flow around its body that look like the atom symbol. The strings fan out and cut off one of the Noir’s arms. Didn’t notice that on the first viewing. Things don’t look good for the Noir and the Stargazer is about the make the killing blow but then its energy runs out. Oh man, sucks to be the stargazer. As the station is finally destroyed, Selene orders Sol to the laser satellite and then ejects him from the Stargazer, much to the surprise of of Sol and Sven in the pursuing Strike Noir. Selene then uses the Stargazer to grab the Noir and orders the laser satellite to fire its beam at the stargazer. This could be trouble for Sven. Sol is trying to reason with Selene (while floating in space) to reconsider her orders but to no avail. Finally, after the dramatic build-up, the beam is fired and the Stargazer and Noir are shot off into space. Sol then reaches the command deck and orders the satellite to fire on the Phantom Pain cruiser, which is does – destroying it.

We’re then taken to deep space where we see Selene regain her senses aboard the heavily damaged Stargazer. She then heads to the Noir and find a knocked out Sven. Turns out the beam shot them out near Venus. Man, talk about getting good mileage out of the thing, does it come with onstar too? Anyway, Selene hooks up the stargazer to the noir to take what energy is left in an attempt to keep the pair alive on their way back home. In the end, Selene reveals that she saved Sven only because she doesn’t want to die alone. Well, isn't that nice of her. After she explains how the stargazer works to Sven she then says they will make it back but the life support may not hold out in time. Well, that blows. The pair bonds during the trip back as they slowly lose consciousness because of the failing life support. We then see Sven’s life flash before us as the stargazer flies through space and after the credits we find out that 699 hours later they made it back but there’s no response from the Stargazer and that’s the end.

Final Thoughts: What Kind of ending is that? Talk about being depressing at the end. Also, what happened to the Stargazer? Was it recovered or did it just fly through space forever? Also, talk about taking a page out of Tomino’s book and just killing everyone off at the end. I know Gundam is made just to promote toys, models, games et all but this series was just one long ad for all this stuff.

Watch if you want to see how it ends but don’t expect much.

Final Thoughts on the Full Series: Interesting idea but when you watch all three parts back to back you can clearly see how all over the place the plot is. The funny and sad thing is that these 3 episodes are still better than the entire run of Seed: Destiny.

Nowhere near as good as other series but still better than Seed or Seed: Destiny.
