Introduction:
The MSiA of Lunamaria's spiffy red ZAKU is an astonishing piece of work. It has a solid design, nearly-perfect plastic molding, excellent coloring, and stunning flexibility. Whereas all of the other Destiny MSiAs are plagued by at least one glaring flaw, Luna's ZAKU is flawless.
Head:
The head can move in a 360 degree circle and can be angled up or down nearly 20 degrees. It's very well detailed with the black cable running from the "face" to the "ears" and the pink mono-eye is painted perfectly. It's very-well detailed and the plastic molding is superb.
Torso:
The torso is mounted on a ball-joint connected to the hip armor allowing for a great deal of flexibility; it can move up and down nearly 40 degrees and can rotate a full 360 degrees on the side. It's a single piece of solid plastic with visible panel-lines and colors accurate to the anime. the backpack features a movable rocket thruster and three holes for the Gunner pack to fit into. The Gunner attachment fits into the backpack snugly and the torso has a nice, even weight to it that really helps balance out the figure.
Arms:
The arms are pretty simple; there are double-joints in the elbows and a three sets (that's 6 total) of different hands. The right shoulder has a detachable spiked armor that's molded entirely in smooth red plastic, and the left shoulder has a nice triple-jointed L-shaped attachment to affix the shield to. The shield is a nice heavy piece of plastic with three spikes protruding from the front. It's well-painted and detailed, and the joints are more than firm enough to allow the shield to be placed in any position.
Legs:
The legs are very-well detailed, with nice black outlining around the insides of the thrusters and movable armor over the feet. The ankles are very flexible and the knees are in the typical double-jointed format we've all come to love. The cables running from the thighs to the calves are very flexible as well, granting unrestricted movement. The skirt armor is very flexible, as are the joints attaching the legs to the main body of the figure, which allow for an unprecedented range of mobility--surpassing some of the MG 1/100 models, believe it or not! This makes posability easy, and gives you a LOT of choices. If you want, you can even have the Zaku doing the splits! Couple that flexibility with the solidity of the plastic and you have some of the highest quality legs of any MSiA figure yet-released.
Weapons and Accessories:
The figure comes with a well-detailed Beam Tomahawk with a nicely-molded jagged transparent edge and a movable "blade" on the opposite side. The beam rifle is nothing special, but the ammo clip can be removed and can also rotate from the top to the side of the rifle for when it is stored on the figure's back, which is a nice. You also get two spare ammo clips for the beam rifle which can be attached to the underside of the shield. The biggest accessory is the removable gunner pack which is very well detailed, even if it is a bit less durable than the rest of the figure. The beam cannon stretches out underneath the right shoulder and has a nicely detailed red power cable running from the top of the rifle to the backpack--this cable can get in the way sometimes, but it's very flexible and easy to move so that isn't really a problem. The beam cannon can be folded up along the figures back, but some of the folding joints of the gun are a little too loose and tend to fall out of place in time.
Conclusion:
According the HobbyLinkJapan, the red Zaku Gunner MSiA has been discontinued, which is a real shame considering that it's far superior to the other Destiny MSiAs. It's durable, detailed, and a great design with a classic color-scheme--every aspect of this figure is top-tier. If you can find it, I suggest you buy it--you will NOT be disappointed.
