MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam ver. 1 MSIA

Review by EZero8

General Information:
Title: MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam
Release Date: 5/2000
Suggested Price: 1000 yen
No. of Parts: 1 Zeta Gundam figure + 11 parts
Plastic colors: greyish white, black, red, yellow, green, dark gray
Gimmicks: beam rifle, hyper mega launcher, beam saber (2), shield, grenade launcher

Head:
Nothing special here. The V-fin is unique in that it’s a double V rather than the traditional single V and is molded in soft yellow plastic. Eyes colored green, and the mouth area lacks the red “goatee” of any Gundam and has a white block there instead. The head can turn about 90 degrees to either side, and it can tilt up and down rather slightly.

Torso:
Panel lines everywhere.  Literally.  It's really disheartening when the production lines don’t color along the actual panel line, and a really messed up figure is what we get. The cockpit hatch is colored red, and the exhaust vents to the sides are colored yellow as always. On the back, there are three “vernier” wings. Two identical wings are sandwiching the third and main vernier. The main vernier can swing up and down, and all three parts are easy to knock off.  I think this is kinda pathetic.

Arms:
Ugh.  The arms are even worse than the torso. They are connected to the torso via a weak connecting ball and socket, making them loose and hard to pose with. The shoulder armour is strange, as it is a clip on over the arms themselves rather than over the ball joint. Both forearms have pegs to hold both the shield and the grenade launcher. Hands included: one gun hand, two saber hands, and two closed fists.

Legs:
This is actually well designed here. The thrusters are detailed like crazy, and they are located all over the legs. They are pretty long legs, which makes this unit stand taller than most MSiA’s. The legs remind me a lot of the GP01-Fb’s legs, only that these have even more thrusters on them.

Weapons, Gimmicks, & Accessories:
Beam rifle- Standard look, only a little longer than normal. Fits snuggly in the gun hand.  However, the e-pac is poorly fitted for the rifle, and thus even the slightest bit of movement would send it flying off.

Hyper Mega Launcher- Ok… where to start. This thing looks cool, but is pretty useless here. Its way too heavy, even with both arms to support it. The handles on the thing doesn’t even fit into the hands, and always fall out.

Beam sabers- Two of these included with black handles. Beam blades couldn’t even be removed, and thus it doesn’t have a storing option on the hip armour.

Shield- Shaped like the nose of the Waverider mode. Can be mounted on both arms.  It's a boring shield... especially since the figure cannot transform.

Grenade launcher- Just a block of plastic that can be mounted on both arms where the shield should be.

Conclusion:
This is a sad excuse as an MSiA incarnate of the Zeta. Not only did it lack anything exciting on it, it also had very poor poseability and most of the parts are loose and easy to knock off. The Hyper Mega Launcher was a disappointment, as were all of the other gimmicks on this figure. Get a newer version instead... the EMSiA version should be a huge improvement.

Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
